About us
Drayton Medical Centre opened on Tuesday 25 August 2015 with two doctors, a practice manager, a practice nurse and a medical administration officer.
The medical centre services Toowoomba and the surrounding suburbs including Drayton, Cambooya, Wyreema, Westbrook, Greenmount, Nobby.
Drayton Medical Centre has since expanded in 2020 and opened a brand new second location upstairs in the Drayton Shopping Centre in the top carpark. This practice is where Dr Sweta Rani will be working.
Education and support
Drayton Medical provides an educational and supportive role in providing training and education to medical students, Student Nurses and GP Registrars. We have held a long-term relationship with universities including Griffith University, Bond University, and the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ).

Events and sponsorships
We are actively involved in community events and sponsorships. Each year Drayton Medical Centre sponsors Drayton State School’s DUX awards.
One of our recent sponsorships were a local event Hike to Heal for Mental Health and sponsor the local Toowoomba Warriors team.

Walk-in patients
Walk-ins will be allocated the first available consultation. However, they may be required to wait until a Doctor is available. Unless the patient requires urgent medical attention, those who have scheduled an appointment ahead of time will receive priority over those who have not.
Home visits
Home visits are available for regular patients within a 30km radius whose conditions prevent them from attending the practice. Should you require this service, please contact our reception team to schedule a time with your Doctor.
After hours & emergency care
For after-hours care in case of emergency, contact our clinic at (07) 4630 1588. You will then have the option to have your call redirected to our on-call Doctor.
Communication/ Telephone policy
Patients are unable to be transferred through to speak with their Doctor unless prior arrangements have been made, or they are returning a Doctor’s call. Should you need to speak with your Doctor, a message can be left with our reception team. The Doctor will then determine whether a direct call back is appropriate or an appointment is necessary.
Doctors are unable to be disturbed while in consult unless the matter is urgent.

Dr Anupam Kumar
MBBS DCH FRACGP
Dr Anupam Kumar graduated from the University of Bangalore, India in 2000 and after his internships during 2001 – 2003 he relocated to the UK. Dr Kumar worked in Haverfordwest and Hull Royal Infirmary focusing on Accident and Emergency, Orthopaedics and Trauma.
In 2006 Dr Kumar moved to Toowoomba where he worked at Toowoomba Hospital in Accident and Emergency and Paediatrics. From 2008, he has worked as a rural GP throughout Queensland and has special interests in Chronic Disease Management, Emergency Medicine, Paediatrics and Skin Cancer Medicine.
Dr Sweta Rani
MBBS, DCH, FRACGP
Dr Sweta Rani completed her MBBS in 2003 in India.
She moved to Australia in 2006.
She has worked at Bundaberg hospital and Toowoomba hospital in various departments.
She completed her Diploma in Child Health from Sydney University in 2014.
In 2016 she completed her training for FPAA certificate( Family planning Alliance Australia National Certificate in Reproductive and Sexual Health).
She attained her Fellowship of Royal College of GPs in 2017.
Dr Rani has special interests in:
- Chronic disease management
- Sexual and reproductive health
- Women’s Health
- Family planning
- Planned parenthood/unplanned pregnancies
- Children’s health
Dr Inderpreet Kaur
MBBS FRACGP
Dr Inderpreet achieved her MBBS in 2010 in India and also holds a Diploma of Child Health.
Dr Inderpreet has worked in India, before moving to Australia in 2015 and working in Emergency and Paediatrics in Sydney Hospital. Dr Inderpreet started in General Practice in Chinchilla.
Her areas of interest include women’s health, paediatrics, and chronic disease management.
Dr Avinesh Upadhyay
MBBS FRACGP
Dr Avinesh achieved his MBBS in 2007 in China and a Masters in Health Service Management in 2012 in Australia. Dr Avinesh received his FRACGP in Qld.
He has worked in various departments in the Kathmandu Hospital in Nepal and also various departments in the QEII hospital in Brisbane.
Areas of interest are Chronic Disease, Geriatric Health, General Family Medicine, Skin Checks, Occupational Health, Children’s Health.
Dr Avinesh has also worked in various outreach centres across Nepal.
Dr Ritesh Upadhyay
MBBS
Dr Ritesh completed his MBBS from Multan, Pakistan in 2005 and got his general registration in Australia in 2008.
He has worked in Hervey Bay and Maryborough Hospitals. He has done a lot of work in Emergency having previously worked in Caboolture Hospital and Prince Charles Hospital emergency departments as well as Mater Paediatrics emergency department. He has a history of working with infectious diseases and respiratory medicine.
Dr Ritesh has also worked for care flight and the royal flying doctors service.
He has strong interests in paediatrics, chronic disease, emergency medicine, geriatric care and the overall well-being of the patient, being multilingual and having been exposed to many different cultural demographics helps him to achieve this.
Dr Edison Chong
MBBS FRACGP
Dr Edison Chong graduated from the University of Queensland in 2018. Prior to joining the GP training program, he was a hospital doctor at Redcliffe Hospital working in various departments. Prior to doing medicine, Edison was a physiotherapist in Canada running his own clinics. He has a Masters in physiotherapy and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from the University of Toronto. He has a special interest in sports medicine.
Dr Khairul Wara
MBBS FRACGP
Dr Wara originates from Bangladesh where she holds her MBBS in both a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. She also holds her part one FCPS qualification in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Dr Wara has worked in paediatrics at Redland Hospital and has worked across multiple departments, including the Jubilee Hospital emergency ward for the past two years.
Dr Wara has a keen interest in Children’s Health, Family Planning, Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Registrar - Dr Hyun (Laura) Ah Kwon
MBBS
Born in Korea and raised in Canada, Dr Laura (Hyun ah) Kwon initially moved to Australia for her medical training. She then fell in love with the country and stayed ever since. She is a graduate of the Bachelor of medicine and surgery from the University of Queensland.
Dr Kwon trained in various areas of medicine during her time as a hospital resident and general surgical registrar in the Mater hospital in Brisbane and the Townsville university hospital. She has a special interest in skin cancer medicine, women’s health, and surgical conditions and procedures.

Dr Seetharam Graduated from India in 2006 and moved to Australia in 2010. Since then, he has worked in various Australian hospitals and gained vast experience in Emergency medicine, Mental Health and all medical sub-specialities including Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Oncology, Hematology, Neurology & Stroke, Endocrinology & Diabetes, Acute Medicine, Renal medicine, Respiratory medicine, Aged care, Palliative care and Rehabilitation.

Registrar - Dr John Shenoda
MBBS
Dr John Shenoda completed medical school in Gold Coast, during which he held several leadership positions at a university, state and national level in local surgical and rural health societies, the QLD Medical Students Council (QLD MSC) and the Australian Medical Students Association (AMSA) National Executive. Before joining the GP training program, He subsequently worked at the Gold Coast University Hospital and Robina Hospital in various departments, including paediatrics, emergency medicine, general medicine, psychiatry, general surgery, rehabilitation and geriatrics. Dr John enjoys all aspects of general practice, provides holistic patient-centred care, and welcomes all patients. He speaks English and Arabic.
Registrar - Dr Ahmad Bayaa
MBBS
Dr Ahmad Bayaa earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Griffith University in 2019 and subsequently worked at the Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) until joining the GP training program. He worked in a variety of departments at GCUH, and just prior to starting GP he was a Registrar in Psychiatry. Dr Ahmad Bayaa is also a member of “lifestyle medicine” groups. Dr Ahmad Bayaa has a special interest in mental illness, as well as longevity medicine.
