How Do You Determine Quality Care in Medical Treatments?

The Covid-19 Pandemic brought a revolution in its wake but not in the way we wanted or expected. The signature aspect of a process is changing, and no change comes without its fair share of pain. No sector experienced more change than the medical field. The world has handled its fair share of crises in the form of various cancers, AIDs, and numerous other infections and ailments, prompting the setting up of multiple country-wide Australian skin cancer clinics, specialised treatment centres, and mainstream hospitals.

There had to be adjustments daily as millions of medical professionals and support staff worldwide overcame impossible odds to prop up society and made sure to save as many lives as possible in the wake of the pandemic. Now, this is a period of transition, where new system procedures are in place, some of them temporary, to be discarded later, and others that are set to be incorporated into the “new normal”.

It is also quite usual for us to re-evaluate our choices about our personal preferences, especially concerning our medical care. Determining the quality of a good skin cancer centre is dependent on quite a few factors:

Quality Assessment

It is the judgement and assessment of quality done by an expert or team of experts with frequent reference to objective standards. At every level of healthcare, physicians, support staff and other professionals, institutions, clinics, health plans, and other communities are evaluated and adhered to a certain standard.

Structural Quality

An essential reference point is a structural quality—the measure of the characteristics of a health care system. The type of health care system can affect its ability to meet the needs of individual patients and communities such as;

  • Clinician characteristics (specialties, years of experience, and certifications)
  • Community characteristics (environmental risks and transportation system)
  • Patient characteristics (illness) and,
  • Organisational aspects (reimbursement and staffing)

These characteristics ensure good care but are insufficient to determine excellent care. The indications of good structural behaviour positively influence care provision and patients’ health.

Every medical institution is subject to assessments of structural quality, and evaluations and results are vital because they inevitably affect customer care.

Process Quality

Process quality directly affects and is responsible for customer feedback and assessments. Process quality now refers to what the providers do for the patients and the skill with which they do them (both technically and interpersonally). The term technical process relates to the choices and procedures used in terms of the diagnosis and treatment, which directly determines whether the care being provided is done skilfully enough or is appropriate for a particular patient. Appropriateness criteria and professional standards are two measures used to quantify and evaluate whether the treatment provided is appropriate for the level of skill shown in executing it.

Process care also includes adhering to several safety and regulatory standards during the treatment process and the various tests being performed during the diagnosis.

At Drayton Medical, we care deeply for our patients and ensure that they are well looked after. Our treatment procedures conform to all the safety and regulatory standards, and our patients have enjoyed the benefits of our attentive care. Our physicians and support staff are diligent, skilled, and attentive to the needs of our patients during their time of stay—be it long-term residents or short-stay patients.
